XE head gasket & cambelt kits??

Can anyone recommend a supplier for a head gasket kit and cambelt kit for my C20XE. I'm not sure which type of cambelt pulley system i have-i've heard one type is better than another. Anyone shed any light and prices i should be paying??

Autovaux.co.uk are pretty good, just give them the engine code.

Or find someone (like me ) that has Vauxhall Trade Club... huge discounts on vauxhall parts

Having recently done the head on my calibra you will find vauxhalls to be the cheapest for a head set by quite a bit compared to local factors (partco and jayar etc). As for the belt and rollers the difference is the shape of teeth on the belt. One the teeth are rounded the other they are sort of v'd ( like this \_/ ). From you pic yours looks like the rounded one. Cant remember which is better. I know theres 10 quid difference in the price of the belts.
The head set part no 90397813 cost me 46 quid trade (55 retail) plus Mr Blairs bit. I seem to remember the others being over 100!!!
Have a scan of www.migweb.co.uk or www.cavweb.co.uk theyl soon tell ya.

Oh yeah give www.autovaux.co.uk a try for prices..

Cambelt Kit from TradeClub : either £72.50 or £62.50 + VAT
Normal Vauxhall Prices : £97.50 or £84.00 + VAT

Depends on your engine code!

P.S. looks like you have rounded teeth. **THINK** thats the early engine, but i cant be sure till i look at mine in morning

He he dont have the docs anymore. I'll have a look in the morning. The car was taken away with new owners name on log book-marked 'scrapped'.

The cut off point seems to be to 14142838 and from 14142839.

So hope you got before 14142838

Think the early engines have a lighter flywheel. Not sure it matches the engine code change tho.

Its the 2.0XE, the C2.0XE had a heavier crank i seem to remember.

Try find a COSCAST head, designed by Cosworth

Its before they changed, just realised that the early engine numbers are the more expensive ones.

Cam Belt Kit : Part Number : 93174266

Cambelt Kit from TradeClub : £72.50 + VAT
Normal Vauxhall Prices : £97.50 + VAT

AUTOVAUX prices are :

Timing Belt Kit £69.95 + VAT
Head Bolts £10.90 + VAT ( Set of 10 )
Head Set (Gaskets) £38 + VAT

Right...........

There is an engine number cutoff, but basically pre-1993 engines are round tooth profile, non-autoadjust tensioner for the cambelt.

Coscast engines are common 1988-1990, but some are around later than this.

Thin flywheel is used on almost all engines, the turbo was the only one which used the "pot type" flywheel in my experience (which is the "heavier" flywheel mentioned, you can spot it a mile off, the clutch is recessed deeply into it)

If your engine is in a MK2 astra it will be round tooth belt.

British gaskets are a good company to get sets and individual gaskets from.

A front crank seal from Vauxhall was £12, 99p from BG Automotive (British Gaskets direct sales)

Do a search on BG Automotive on Google.

Top and bottom end sets are around the £40 ish mark from BGA.

Think it was the crank that is little lighter on the early engines, not flywheel like i said this morning.

Most Cav GSi's had the round tooth belt too

Motor came from a Cav GSi-G or H plate iirc??

Crank is 3-4 kg's lighter on the early engine, round tooth belt profile is earlier type.

I got a load of bits from autovaux and would happily recommend them. Also managed to get some oversize bearings for the bottom end from my local engine shop, lead copper ones are better, not the standard tin jobbies.

If interested I have a brand new head gasket that is/will be for sale as now I have some 88mm oversize pistons that i need a steel laminated cometic gasket to fit..

The engine number doesn't always seem to work in identifying the corect bits - I had to take my cambelt back to the vauxhall dealer as it was the wrong type.
