Ford 2.0i DOHC 8V
Interested to know if anyone has used
the 2.0i dohc 8V (sierra 2000E)
engine in a Locost
I am considering it, I have the donor
but the engine is quite tall.
Has anyone managed to lower it?

I'm sure it has been used but general opinion is junk it, quite large and very difficult to get tuning parts for.

Well i'm building with one!
With its native MT75 g/box its actually lighter than a pinto type 9.
The torque figures kill the standard pinto stone dead.
It roughly the same height as the pinto so the sump will need to be chopped.
There is not a lot of tuning bits available, so you have to make your own

Nice work. What have you done with the sump bolts that go to the bellhousing? How much height have you chopped off?
Is that inlet manifold you've made aluminium or steel?

the sump bolts are not needed ,ask anyone who is using an MT75 g/box.
Thre is enough support using the other bolts.
The manifold is steel. the box ection is a hot water jacket.

Good to see someone going against the grain and being innovative, that's what all this is about after all!
I wasn't necessarily rubbishing the engine, merely commenting on the general consensus of opinion as I have observed it (mostly on here)
Manifold looks good by the way.

2.0i DOHC
Just looking at chopping my sump on a 2.0i EFI dohc motor.Reckon on loosing about 2 1/4 inches in height,going to re-use the bottom section of sump
and weld box section wings on either side.
Will post pics in my archive once its sorted.
Concerning reliability of this engine,i cant help feeling that a lot of it is old wives tales.If the engine is unreliable after 100 thou or cam chains
start breaking,so what,in the real locosters world youd just by another for £25-£50 and stick it in for another 25 thou (probably outlast the car on
that basis).Power wise you can realistically get 150BHP without any major work...Seems ok to me and probably a few others to boot..

I'm not alone.......
I'm making a manifold for some throttle bodies on the EFI engine.(will post pictures soon).
150 BHP easy.... air filter & exhaust manifold + tweek the fuel regulater....also can be Turboed & supercharged.
Keep up the good work guy's...

Sierra 2000E as donor and intend using the engine,Mt75 box ,diff, front and rear hubs,steer col etc. Am drawing chassis on Autocad.

used this engine in dutton and robin hood, apart from the height I have no hesitation in recomending it, suggest you use the donor loom, and get a
k&n filter kit. does the standing quarter in high 13's in the dutton, and also does 35mpg. I made my own plenum which reduces the bonnet
height requirement, I also cut the standard downpipe to suit the installation.
Sump is ally but is easy to weld if you have a TIG, use a Dohc plate and cover and pinto release bearing if using a type 9 box.

of course you can use a MIG welder if you use pure argon gas. I Like the weber manifold, I had trouble sealing the thermostat housing on my plenum
ohter than that no problems at all.
I suggest fitting a new water pump because these pumps tends to drip a bit, especially if your donor engine has had the cooling fluid drained out of
it for a while, the seal weeps the coolant which is a nuisance. Use a quality synthetic oil .
but this is a cheap reliable engine which makes a pinto seem puny in comparison.

here's a pic of DOHC lowline plenum - hmemade. I used all the ford senders and the original throttle body, works well and looks good
too
