T5 gearbox mod to 5th

Thought I'd share this - may be useful to somebody one day...
I have a T5 off an old cossie, modified the input bearing retainer to fit a TVR bellhousing& release bearing, rebuilt it all & put in a new 5th gear set, taking it from 0.87:1 to 0.63:1.
Everything OK except 5th - didn't feel it was engaging properly & synchro didn't work.
Finally found the problem; the 5th driving gear on the layshaft does not have the same locating boss feature as the cossie one & axial location has been by rubbing on the layshaft bearing retainer bolt heads.
So if you're swapping 5th on a T5 watch out for this one - it can all feel perfect -but be flawed.
I now have to machine & harden a steel spacer ring & try to find some missing bits of synchroniser......
Cheers
Bob
