2.1 l pinto cooling probs.

Just picked up my F27 from the rolling road tuners, with newly built 2.1l pinto engine with an injection head and burton fast rd camshaft fitted, its running VERY hot, so much so the cooling fan they used , couldnt cool it!!!, they suggested a twin core rad, a fan switch that cuts in lower than 88-90 degrees, and a summer thermostat - any one had similar probs ??? and how did you cure it????
cheers ,
Greg

Have used Water Wetter in the past , it will drop the coolant temperature by as much as 20 degrees . Demon Tweeks keep it in stock about £15 per bottle I think . Lot cheaper than an engine rebuild. As already suggested a twin core rad might help but a lot more readies.

Bob,
Dunno wot the rad was off, but I've ripped it out now, seemed thin to me , will try to get a pic of it 2morrow, I'm not using a heater in this set up , so the hose from the water pump goes straight into the side- draught carb manifold,
seemed to work ok with the old 2L though. Just recovered the rad switch from the old rad and it has ford stamped on it, are these things a universal fit ? any advice gladly received!!

I know that tuned pintos do have a tendancy to run a little hot,i'm using the base set up of 2.0 normal cam and twin choke carb with escort mk2 rad.
I still get hot under the collar in the summer but i've now kicked most of the thermostat out and fitted a dash switch to get the fan on earlier (around 80)this seems to help a lot.
I've heard polo rads although thin are very good at cooling, also they are a great price new at around £45.

everyones set up seems a little different, but most if not all do try and get there header tank or rad as high as they can (above the base level of the cylinder head)I'm not sure about the thermo switch, they may well be universal fit but i think the adjustable type like used on the kenlowe fans is a better choice and may change to this at a later date.

My water pump hose goes to the header tank which is fed from the inlet manifold(downdraught carb)with the large pipe from the pump going to the bottom of rad and top hose to thermostat house.

My photo archive has a rough guide but it has changed a bit over time as i got it very wrong at first.
