Pinto Cambelt
Hi Guys
I want to change the cambelt on my 1600 LS Pinto but I don't have the Ford tensioning tool.
Do I need to buy one or is the Haynes twist method good enough?

Pinto Cambelt Tension
Use Haynes method, Correct Tension is important but not as crucial as some engines because If belt breaks on a Pinto it does not lunch itself -
(valves do not hit pistons)
When you're up to your ass in alligators you tend to forget the initial objective was to drain the swamp !.

i thought the 1600 hits but the 2000 misses due to having a taller head?

Twisting method is ok, I have fitted loads and used this method.
If pulleys are in good nick and genuine manufacturers belt is fitted, you will have no problems.

Thanks for the info.
It is the long stroke 1.6 i.e. 165 block. The stroke is the same as the 2.0.

I just didmine by hand, Also check the bearings in the tensioner.
Never be afraid to try something new!
