Silencer mounting
Looking through some of the recent (and not so recent) threads on exhaust mounting, I couldn't find anything which answered my question.
I have a stainless steel combined silencer/cat with no tabs or brackets welded on. I think I will make up one or more straps (bike-style).
Attached is a drawing of some options I though of. I would welcome opinions on these, or other suggestions.
1. As a general point I think I want the bottom of the sliencer to be level with the bottom of the floor - is that the usual thing?
2. Would one mount/strap be enough? the silencer is fairly heavy and I can foresee either the mount giving way, or having lots of "bounce"
underway.
3. I don't think I have seen any bobbins with a bolt long enough to go through the whole of the lower chassis rail. Could I just drill and tap a
hole through the ali side panel into the chassis rail? Would that be strong enough?
4. Would vertical bobbins be better?
5. Should I go for a different type of strap?
Cheers

Why not ask 907 if he can supply a fitting kit. Tell him the OD.

Yup, that's fine
2. Would one mount/strap be enough? the silencer is fairly heavy and I can foresee either the mount giving way, or having lots of "bounce"

One strap is better. If you mount in more than one place it stresses the pipe to can joint and the metal will crack.
If the can is heavy, use a bigger bobbin.

See thread in donor section, rubber mounts. There's a link to RS
4. Would vertical bobbins be better?
Yes. A bobbin that's rated for 2.5 kgs on its side is about 5 kgs in the vertical.
5. Should I go for a different type of strap?
Your "P" design is a bit flexible at the point where the straight meets the circle.
I use an "L" shaped bobbin mount.

See pic of mine below.
I hope this is of some help.
U2U me if you need further advise.

Thanks for the advice. I have adapted my "P" clip to be more like your "L" version and I will look for a chunky rubber
mount.
...just one more thing: if I only have 1 strap, where/how far along the silencer is ideal? I was thinking about 2/3 towards the back??

1/2 to 2/3 would be fine.
Did you see the Espace mount on the other thread?
