Tuning Ecotec engines

Hi there
has anybody got any tuning advise on a 1.6 16v ecotec engine

i am considering fitting bike carbs and doing away with the standard injection as i have been told that this engine was very restricted in the inlet manifold area.

I am trying to find out what bennefit the above would have and if its worth doing
if not i will take the engine out and fit a 2 litre xe,but i keep getting told the 1.6 is a very good engine and very tunable but i carnt find anyone whos tuned one to ask there opinion

Cheers
