Could someone please explain the mysteries of the ford pinto cooling system?

I had just finished plumbing up the cooling system and started to fill the system., when water came P******g out of the out let on the intake manifold.

the system is a pressurised system? or that os what i think it is. i have the usual rediator with a top and bottom hose. i have an out let on top of the block for bleeding the system, an out let from the water pump for the internal heater ,an outlet on the intake manifold and an expansion tank.

the heating pipe on the water pump has been capped off as i have no heater.

the botton pipe on the expansion tank is connected into the bottom rad hose.

overflow pipe on the rad is connected to the top of the expansion tank.

what does the outlet on the manifold do?

is it alright to cap it off?

Or have I got it all wrong (Very likley)?????

i have tried to inset a picture below but may not have mastered that either!!!!

I took my expansion tank supply from the heater outlet on the pump and blanked the outlet on the manifold.

It works fine

Connect the one you blanked from the pump to the inlet manifold connection

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I presume that the Pinto is the same as my X-flow - the connection on the manifold takes the return from the heater.

Rather than cap the heater outlet on the pump, connect it to the inlet manifold with a piece of hose.

On the x-flow this gives better water circulation in the period before the thermostat opens. Oh, it stops the water piddling out over your boots as well!

Many thanks lads.

as it happens i had it plumbed like mookaloid, but thought that the water would be pumped into the expansion tank.

i suppose it is better to ask questions and look stupid rather than B***** it up and be stupid.

thanks again
