Type 9 speedo drive - does it leak?

I am going to use an electronic speedo, but the speedo drive is currently open to the elements. Does anyone know if it actually goes right the way through to the inside of the gearbox (i.e. is liable to seep oil out) or is it just a recess to take the square section speedo cable?

Just want to find out if I need to block it up with something - I would rather find out now!

Cheers

cut the end off the old speedo cable (the steel bell shaped bit, and fill the end with gripfill/sikaflex/silicone, and then use the circlip to hold it in.

made to measure solution

Thanks all. I don't have a speedo cable, but I will make sure the hole is blocked up

No need to block it off, if you have the square holed plastic bit still there, the hole doesn't go right through!
