Exhaust Downpipe

Right, got the new engine in the car and want to start the bugger up, problem is, no exhaust from manifold back and neighbours I would like to keep on the good side.

Whats the best source out there for the downpipe from a normal (shitty) manifold on a crossflow? Good Ol' Ron say to "simply modify" the origional escort pipe. Yeah, right.....

You could have a word with 907, he modified my stainless exhaust and he builds really nice cans. He may modify or make you a downpipe. I contacted him out of the blue and he was very helpful.
Cheers

Cheers Jon, will try that one,

Thought about the old stainless route, but you have to take the car to them, which aint as easy as it sounds.

Yeah I had to trailer my car over to Paul's (907) in Sudbury about 30 miles each way but it was worth it. It was a complicated mod'. I think yours may be simpler if you're using the original manifold as you'll just have one pipe exiting from the engine bay.
By the way you'd be better off trying to get hold of a 4 branch manifold rather than use the original. Apparently the engine will perform better. Just a thought. Best of luck.
Cheers
Jon

I'd do what Tri says- just mention that you'll be noisy for 20 minutes and is that ok. Ask if they have babies asleep or anything or if there's anyone on nights.

I really didn't find my Pinto to be as noisy as expected!

There's no way it was louder than my grinder and I'd be surprised if a normal DIY wood plane or circular saw was any quieter.

Satuday afternoon- who's gonna complain!

Cheers,
James

It's decided then, saturday turnover! As for the four branch, did think about it but I've got swept wings and unfortunately they don't mix. Will also be hunting for a local stainless place. Gotta be done!

I made a staimless system to mate to the original cast manifold, I used some 2inch stainless dairy pipe and two preformed 45 degree bends. I welded the system together using some 1.5mm dissimilar rods and have had no problems with it .To join it to the manifold i made a flange from an old pipe fitting salvaged from work and used the original clamp and olive arrangement.

Modified Escort manifold, cut off at first collector, formed and welded on new mild steel pipe sections and finished with st steel pipework, see pics folder in photo archive. The ring in the1st pic is welded to the box outlet to make it SVA OK.
