Zetec injectors for megasquirt

I've got a brand new injection plenum from a 1.8 Zetec and I was wondering if the injectors would be suitable for building a megasquirt system? It's complete, with fuel rail, fuel return and a couple of other bits that look like motors but I don't know what they do! (possible one if a fuel pump?)

idle control?

Assuming you can mount it all to your engine, I can't see why you can't MS using this

Don't see why not.

You want to use the plenum itself or move the injectors and rail to another manifold? You may need to modify the rail to get the correct spacing.

If it's for a standard Pinto I would guess the injectors would flow enough.

If it's tuned then they may not be man enough- you need to look up the flow rates.

I may be wrong about all of the above!

As I understand it Megasquirt is capable of powering more or less any Fuel injection system.

I am thinking of upgrading my pinto to Fuel injection and have done a bit of reading, I believe that the key to injector selection is getting the right flow rate for the power output of your engine.

You will probably need all the bits once you have identified them!

Steve - it could well be the idle control, I'll have to get hold of a Haynes manual or ask someone who knows more than me

James - I'm just toying with ideas at the moment, possibly making my own system for my pinto but also considering it as a cheap alternative to webers if I decided to upgrade to a zetec. As I understand it, the thing that stops you from keeping the standard injection system is the fact that it hits the steering shaft. I could make up my own plenum to fit around this and use all the standard bits from the zetec (including ECU if I wanted to), making it a bit more wallet-friendly!

Mark - I've seen mention of injector flow rates, presumably there's some way of figuring out if yours flows enough fuel (an equation involving engine capacity, no. injectors/cylinders, and engine max rpm perhaps?). I'll be interested to see how you get on if you do decide to make your own system. Unfortunately it'll be a little while off for me yet - got to learn to weld first!

For a 4 pot engine, I think the rough rule of thumb is multiply the injector cc flow rate by 5 and divide by 4 to give the approx engine bhp for those injectors.

The bit that looks a bit like an electric motor mounted under the inlet tracts is the idle speed control valve as said above. I'm not sure which other bit you are refering to, the fuel pressure regulator is on the end of the fuel rail and the big bit in the middle is the throttle body but you knew that any way.
