Damped propshaft
I have a vibration probably from the diff but it a little hard to tell when on and off the throttle. Also on light throttle or at crusing speed I have
a continual noise. The best way to describe it is a continuous clong clong clong.
Doesn't seem to be GBX specific as its in every gear and I recently installed a BGH GBX. The noise has stayed the same.
I've repositioned the engine, replaced the engine rubbers, replaced one engine bracket and chopped the bell housing all to make sure theres no
direct contact with the chassis. This also helped to straighten the propshaft.
The diff bearings were changed when I put in a 4.44:1 crown wheel and pinion. Though one driveshaft ran tight for a few miles as I got the wrong
spacing info initially.
I'm thinking of trying rubber damped propshaft (not a donut). Just in case the very light "blacktop" 20V 4AGE internals and light
flywheel have introduced the vibrations.
Any thoughts on this?

Bike engines use a cush drive to soften out harsh vibrations, I don't see any reason why you couldn't use one for your engine but
I've never heard of a 4age with one before.
My concern would be that the vibration is caused by something wrong with the engine, and although fitting a damped prop shaft would hide the problem
it wouldn't solve it.
I suggest asking some more 4age users to see if this is a common problem or if it's just your engine.

you don't want your prop too straight either, if its dead straight, all the forces hit the same part of the bearings causing premature wear.
With a slight angle the prop 'moves' around its bearings giving equal wear (in theory).

Thanks guys keep the responses coming.
Fair point about masking the problem. I'm on a rolling road next week to try to pinpoint the source.
I've still got a slight angle to the proshaft joint probably about 5 degrees or so.
I have push in shafts so I think I have tripod joints at the GBX end. Worth looking at anyway.

Justin i think your shafts may differ from mine .The play on my shafts is on the hub end. i thought it was the diff first and got a new one rock
the prop and see if the shafts move but the car dose not hope this helps Jacko

From my limited experience we probably have similar CV joints at the hub end. The GBX end differs depending if the diff was from a drum or
brake'd car.
Also my shafts are the smaller diameter 1.3/1.6 Sierra type. I've converted to disc from drum brakes at the rear.
Anyway thats fairly easy to check.

Did you use new prop? I wonder if the rear UJ is on the way out?

Yep the prop was new but i'll check again.
I've checked the driveshaft joints and they seem fine.
