MR2 Engine 3SGE help
Not strictly Locost related but is an engine
Does anyone have a workshop manual for a Mk2 MR2, specifically for the engine as my brother's has a problem (see engine forum on Pistonheads
here). He used to have one in pdf form on a CD but he's
lost it

Hi there
I have a Celica turbo one but your engine is non turbo
Try the toyota celica owners club as the 3sge engine is the same engine fitted in the st202 Celica
Hope this helps

Unfortunately it does sound very much like big end failure. It's almost certainly not worth rebuilding if this is the case, get a price for a
low mileage import engine from Fensport instead.

I'm slowly coming to this conclusion . I'll get a spark plug socket (16mm I gather, can anyone confirm?) on my way home this evening to
see if there's anything in the bores. If not I'll take the sump off and see if the big ends have gone or not.

I'm 99% sure it's a 16mm hex on the spark plugs. Can measure mine tonight if you want, but will be a bit late if you have bought one by
then!

Thanks for that Geoff Reading through it does say 16mm socket for the plugs on an 3SGTE so I guess it'll be the same.
EDIT: Arg! Just had someone on the MR2 owners club say it's actually a 10mm one for that engine! Who to believe....

Ok the bottom ends have indeed gone. Well, I'm assuming it's them, as the sump and oil pickup are covered in metal fillings. Also you can
wobble the big ends on the crank, which I doubt is a good thing. I've not bothered removing the caps to check the bearing as they've
obviously knackered.
So, does anyone have a 3SGE engine going cheap? Or know someone who does?
cheers
