XE Oil pressure when cranking

I'se searched back and can find various bits of info on priming pinto and xflow oil on this but nothing for the Vauxhall XE engine

I've got some stupid idea that i might be able to get my engine to run this weekend (before work send me to china for 2 weeks). So today I filled the engine the with oil, filling the filter and cooler (which is on thermostat control) and tried to turn it over. I had the plugs out and was pleased (a) that it turned over (b) to get a spark but there was no sign of any oil pressure.

I didn't try cranking for long as i hadn't put any oil down the plug holes. Does anyone know how long I might have to crank for to get pressure on an XE - or if there are any tricks to prime the pump?

Remove pressure relief valve pump in oil and crank this puts oil straight into pump hope this helps

I have never seen a great deal of pressure on cranking on my XE's, but then I have never cranked them for very long!

It is probably worse for the engine to sit cranking it for an age than it is to just start it.

The pump self-primes with no bother on the XE. (as it does on the pinto and crossflow as well)

That's what I have done with mine in the past to no ill-effect. Just start it up and watch for pressure, if it runs at idle for more than 10 secs with the pressure light on then stop it. They will run at idle with virtually no pressure and no ill effect, it is low pressure under load that does the damage.

Thanks for the info. As NSDev suggested cranking did not produce any pressure but when i started it it came right up in the time it took for me to look over to the guage.
