KV6 in the pre Rover 75 versions were NBG --- even in the 75 and post 2001 Freelander version it has the potential for costing a lot of money to
fix.
It is also a lot more complex than the 4 cylinder K16.

2.5 v6 duratec from a st24/cougar is a nice lump of ali, if its good enough for a noble (with twin turbos added) it should be good enough for a 7.

I was originally going for a KV6 after reading an article in a kit car mag. I joined a rover 800 forum to research it and was told to avoid it and go
for the 2.7 honda V6 in pre 96 models. The rest is history...

Um head gaskets mainly I think. Cant quite remember. All sorted now in the latest 75s, but early 800 versions were essentially experimental!

Nissan SR20DE(T)
All alloy and serious power can be had from the turbo'd DET. Also used in the RWD 200SX so a mating gearbox is available.

How about a nissan Micra???
Don't forget that some of these later engines come with very complicated looms with sensors for just about everything!

Alfa four cylinder engines are alloy.

Interesting side note. When you put "spares and repairs" into eBay's search function one of the related searches is "Hillman
Hunter".

Most modern cars are all alloy now... Cast iron is heavy and expensive difficult to machine and a nightmare for COSHH in the UK and Europe. Seems to
be ok for Far Eastern countries though...

Cast iron is quite nice to machine, though very abrasive so hard on tools.

Depends on type - I work on Martensitic and Iron Carbide impregnated - not much fun I assure you. Standard diesel engine blocks - Toyota Yaris - are
simple SG which is a POP.
