If you go down the bike carbs route you need to use a bike pump, ideally same/similar to the original. Bike carbs do not like the manner in which the fuel is delivered from the likes of a Facet pump (seems to be a combination of high pressure and the pulsing) - even a return line and pressure regulator will not fix this - there have been a few postings on this matter. BTW, bike pumps seem a lot cheaper on ebay than their car equivalent!

I imagine a bike pump with the correct flow rate & pressure would do the job on Webers

Whatever you do dont make the same mistake that i have just done. Pinto, 38 DGAS, facet red top and regulator. Even with reg turned right down the delivery was way too powerfull, overfuelled the carb and had small fire in the venturis when i tried to start car up (admittedly timing is way out and mixture could be wrong). It wasnt major fire but id hate someone else to have same bother.

Bike pump sounds like good solution.

SU pump or the AC pump off an old pre 1990 Rover 216S or 216SE (ie carb models) (213 shape).

Don't be tempted to use a regulator as pressure regulators only really work 100% when the fuel is actually flowing continiously which isn't the case with a carbs at idle.

For bike carbs mate its easiest to use a bike pump. I got one off ebay for a fiver. Will run at the correct pressure etc.

I have been told they work well with webers etc also.

I read your post one this, really don't understand at all! We have used facet red tops with 38 dgas carbs with no probs at all in the past. The road rally sierra used this setup and never missed a beat.

Something must be wrong to have this problem!

edit..............in fact we put a carbed v6 (ex eurocar engine) in a capri that used to be a 2.8i, and used the 2.8i pump (bosch injection jobbie) on that with a regulator!!! That pump delivers 100psi ish when it's blocked off!!!!!!!!! In that example the regulator was a return type one (filter king regulator) not a restrictor one.
