Indy, Zetec fitting - Oil filter

Ok, this is for those with Indy's who have actually fitted a silver top Zetec in their Indy. Mines a 1994 lump so if you have the same....great!

What have you done with the oil filter. Did you use a smaller one and did it fit without removing the steering column or engine? Is it right that you have to be able to remove the oil filter without removing the steering column or engine for MOT/SVA?

I have a type 9 box and prop shaft that is designed for the pinto but am worried that the oil filter is going to be a bit of a mare. I have also heard of other issues using a small oil filter as it causes a problem with oil flow/surge or summat(can't remember what that problem is though).

Cheers

If you cant offset it slightly to the nearside you can use a big boy Mondeo filter, it fits just below the steering shaft. Easy to get at and no probs to change.

I'm only talking of small amounts and the other benifit is that you get more room for the carbs/TBs. I think mine sits about 1" off centre. Best bet is to fit the engine and gearbox into the chassis on blocks and heve a measure.

It fits in mine but as said the engine is slightly over to the near side. I should have mentioned the size of my filter to that young lady at Brands, she would have been well impressed!

Rad is the good old 1000cc Polo...Works just fine, and cheap at £40 ish new.

As always Zetec... Many thanks

I'll get the engine lowered into the car soon and have a measure up.

If your worried about the capacity of the small filters then do what I am doing and fit a remote filter.
Alternatively you could use the "Westfield method" thump it with a big mallet to make it fit!!!!

Where would you get the remote?

Oh and it's funny you should mention Westfiels cos on the 'A arcing car is born' series Mark (mad as a fish) Evans acuses Pete Mate of denting the oil filter and Pete Mate said it was already there!!!

So there you go!
