ZETEC HELP.....

Before i part with any folding paper i need to know if there is a cheap way of getting a zetec to run. I have had a look round and to me it looks very expensive to get these engines running. To use the orig jets i'm looking at £1050 for the Omex (or whatever) kit from KYC cars, new webers are from £250 each plus manifold etc and throttle bodied thingies are about the same as twin webers.

My orig idea was to stick to a std 2 litre pinto which will cost little and would still give good performance. I'm not a speed freak but like the idea of a zetec.

Any ideas?

Andy

It's not just the carbs you will need, it's the inlet manifold and an ignition module as you won't be using the original Ford ecu
Weber to a complete kit, cost's about £1000, might be possible to obtain second hand, given a decent engine and without any other internal mods you will get 165bhp, and still pass the SVA (92-96 engine needed, after 96 then efi and cat needed)
You will need to make engine mounts, ideally change the sump and fit a water pump from an 1800 fiesta

There you go see........ loads a wonga!!

What could i spend that £1000 on? Shed loads of stuff i bet plus i will still have a fast car with std pinto.......

Me thinks me knows the answer.... unless anyone can come up with a cheap solution but after looking into it for 2 weeks i can find none. If i get fed up with the performance of the pinto then it will be a winter project to get it up to scratch.

Cheers

For that sort of money I'd have thought you could get a bike engine running in it.

Why not get a 130bhp 1.8 Zetec and use the existing injection system and ECU. All you need is to fabricate a plenum chamber to make the system lower to clear the bonnet. It's been done. An aquaintance of mine has done just that in a westie and it goes really well!
