25 MPG?!

Is that really what a BEC will return? 25 MPG?
And that's not been "racing" driving wither, though it was certainly not the ay my mum would drive (or my dad for that matter)

I know it's been cold and that I've needed the choke to get it started but come on!

hehe at least your in double figures

its the low gearing high rpm and the extra weight that nails the fuel bill

Surprised? Not really. I was expecting about 30 though.
I guess I've been spoied by my smart. Driven hard it will "only" return 50 MPG.

Another reason not to buy a BEC? Will a similarly quick CEC do any better?

I used to get 20mpg on track 30mpg on the road with a carbed R1 in my Phoenix.

This is better than my mates Furyblade.

Which on long runs was consistently 10% worse than me.

Oh my god I would think 25 mpg was a god send

my Z used to do 13mpg if it liked it..I used to put 20 quid of petrol a day in for just pottering around and we figured the once that it was costing me 250 quid a week for turning the key due to age and insurance etc 19" tyres 600 pound service

beautiful car and never broke down once

the costs would have doubled if it did

OK, there locosts but does anyone really care about the mpg when youve got the wind in your air........

I never checked mine until i started racing it and that was only too make sure i wasn't either going too run out of juice or worse still carry too much, petrol is heavy.

1st race at Mallory last year they misprinted race length, cant remember how many laps but it was a few more than printed, 3 cars ran out and Ian Gray was chased out the pit lane with a jerry can full of petrol as was trying too top up the "purple cars" when he realised the mistake.

I bet if you removed the barn door of a windscreen, and converted to cycle fenders, you'd improve mileage a lot.

thats not quite true.....

the H1 and H2 may have been a bit juicy - and the s1 250 did a few 10s of mpg.

However, my KH250 (later S1) and the one i had in the 70's would get a heady 45mpg if driven kindly and 27 mpg 2 up at full whack.

My jag v12 used to indicate 3mpg on accelleration.....

seems that 20 odd mpg is normal for a CEC, and a bike engine that would have done 40 mpg with over twice the weight and driven hard isnt suprising to get 25 mpg.

150hp from a litre or so obviosly needs a bit of fuel when driven hard....

I don't think it's the weight but that the Cd of the Locost sucks eggs. If a bike-engine were put in an aerodynamically slick car, I think most of the mileage would come back.

My friend had a Suzuki Kettle that used to get 15mpg on a run, single figures if he used it local.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

That was probably caused by the engine acting like an air brake.

You're not far wrong. I've only had number plates for a week. I havn't fitted a dynojet kit yest and the fuelling is a bit off at full throttle, so I'm being (almost) careful

That mpg is to be expected...

Rather have BEC than CEC any day... besides the money you save on Road Tax is offset by the money you spend on fuel.. but think of the fun you're having at the time!

Don't worry, once you get it properly tuned you'll probably get about 26mpg

Ours seems to average about 20mpg. You're either quite fortunate - or simply driving like a girl. I think I know which
