Zetec Engine identification

I have Zetec which im trying to identify. I bought what I thought was a 1.8Zetec with a Aluminium top marked DOHC 16V

Stamped on the block low down on the exhaust site at the rear is NBO 4481. Its badly stamped and uneven.

I also have in the cast above the water pump on the Exhaust side
928M
6015
CD

Does this make any sense to anyone. Or am I looking in the wrong place. I have looked on the Toynes site which was very good but does not help me here.

Thanks

Ian

You can have a look here but the numbers you have don't seem to match any of those listed!

Cheers

Hi,

There should be a large cast 16,18 or 20 in the side of the block.

Yep, you should find this on the Intake side of the Engine Casting

I have found the same coding on the head with the RDA code.

Im going to try and see if there is a code verticaly stamped by the sensor. Mine is horizintally stamped where the block meets the sump.

I do have a large 18 cast into the block.

Looks likea call to Ford tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help.

As Shrodinger says, the earlier DOHC engine can be mistaken for a zetec, with 16v written on it, it could be from the Escort RS2000 or from the Scorpio as they both used a 16v version of the older engine.
If this is what you have then do not despair as they are making quite good money at the moment, i have seen them selling for more than a 1.8 zetec.

If you have the engine number you can tell from that what year the engine is and that may help identify the engine.

Does it look like this...

i.e. very slopey cam cover? If so, then it's not a zetec....

Guys,

Thanks for all your help. I faxed the code off to Ford and they have confirmed its a 1992 105PS ZETEC manufactured in January.

Hope this satifies the SVA man.

Why my code is written horizontally, who knows. Lte hope it starts.
