Zetec clutch help needed quickly please..
Iv just put my engine and type 9 together and i have no clutch.
I have a mondeo 1.8 clutch fitted with cct133 brg but i have full travel on the release arm before the brg touches the clutch.
Have i got the wrong clutch or what?
I have fitted the friction plate the correct way round before anyone says..

It sounds like you have the wrong release bearing.
you need a standard Sierra/Pinto 2.0L one if you are running a Type 9 box
I've just found the box mine came in and it says:
Unipart No. GRB 226 this definately works in my 2.0L Zetec with 1.8 Zetec flywheel and 1.8 clutch.
You could try cross referencing!
hope this helps

have you got the clutch arm in right as this is what i used and it works fine ( on the floor ) the release bearing should be quite a bit longer
than a ( normal one ) to take up the excess distance between the clutch fingers and the bearing

When I did this about 8 years ago, I had to fit the clutch plate reversed to get it to work. It was to do with the protrusion of the boss at the
centre of the plate.

I have the same parts, mondeo 1.8 flywheel, spinner pressure plate and cct133 bearing. My release arm sits about in the middle of the hole in the
bellhousing when pushed forward into contact and has 33mm of movement till it would touch the front edge of the cutout.
If you lie down on the right of the car and peer under with torch you can see the bearing and pressure plate easily through the hole in the
bellhousing.

The CCT133 bearing is on the left below. Extra height is in the plastic. Standard pinto on the right.

Mine looks nothing like that picture when its together. The clutch sits alot furthur to the engine yet it looks the same clutch.

Sorry, senior american moment. Driven plate, the one on the gearbox input shaft.
Missed out a comma. Should be 'spinner, pressure plate'.

If the clutch sit's nearer the engine that points to the wrong flywheel if the clutch and bearing are correct

Would it be possible to modify clutch arm to space bearing out further? Is there another bearing with more depth? Alter the pivot point for the clutch
arm? Have you got the right bellhousing for the gearbox? I know there are boxes with longer 1st motion shafts(input shaft) do they have longer
bellhousings? Might pay to measure from gearbox to mounting face of bell housing, can measure mine if that would help

I think the box with the longer input shaft is standard depth bellhousing.
First of get the engine out and split off the box. Check the bend on the actuating arm is not unusual. Will look at a spare when I get home. Also
check the release bearing is the taller cct133. Perhaps measure clutch face to diaphragm fingers and someone can compare. I think I could get under
mine and take some sort of measure of flywheel face to face of clutch spring housing.
I reckon you have the wrong release bearing. Anyone know how much clutch lever travel/wire pull is normal, not pedal travel?
Sorry to waffle. Just thinking out loud. could the donor owner have fitted an escort clutch to it sometime. Might be thinner? Certainly the mondeo
clutch works OK.

It is a mondeo 1.8 clutch and a cct133 bearing iv bought them in the last couple of weeks.
I looked at adapting the lever to make it though furthur but it would make the bearing go to far off the bearing shaft.
Its definatley a clutch/flywheel problem.
Unless there are 2 different lengths of bell housing.

If you could measure the length of your bell housing Melvyn thatd be great. Im suspecting i may have a longer one.
I remembered mine came from a TD which i think was a P100 or what ever the pick up sierras were.

Seem to recall that the P100 has the long input box on it, coupled to a longer bellhousing. Bellhousing should be 7" between faces,

Gazza , is that for the standard type 9 or the long shaft type?

7" is for a standard four pot bellhousing. Both the RS2000 one I'm using and the Capri one on the spare box are 7" anyway. I did
have a Sierra one, but I seem to have misplaced it somewhere.

Just measured standard Sierra bell housing from gearbox to mounting flange it is 7in . The Zetec flywheel I have is approx 38mm thick , from the
clutch surface to the surface where the head of the flywheel securing bolts is 20mm and on the rear the mounting suface is 10mm making the area where
the flywheel mounts approx 8 mm thick HTH Dan

Right id better go to the scrappies tomorrow. Mine measures 9 inches. Hopefully thatl solve my problem. The extra 2 inches will explain another
problem i had with clearance aswell.
Ill measure my flywheel tomorrow when i take the engine out again but im sure its just the bell housing.
Thanks people.
Thankyou for that Melv..

Propblem should be sorted now. I have been to the scrappies and looked at a type 9 and mine is obviously longer. I will find out later on in the
week when its painted up and fitted,.
