My zetec has no engine number
My 2.0L Zetec from a L reg Mondeo has no engine number, I have checked the usual places (see attached photo) but can't see it. There is no
evidence of it being ground out and the engine came from a friends car so no dodgy business is suspected. The only conclusion I can draw is that the
engine was replaced in the mondeo with a new one at some time and the engine number was never restamped on the block.
Problem, how do I go about proving the age of the unit for the SVA ? I have the casting numbers and the original Vehicle reg but no V5 !!!!

My zetec has no engine number
I faced the same problem: nice engine, but a number which is rusted away!
There is just one option, use a number from another engine (same type, of course) which is about the same age.
That's what i'm gonna do! The number is created with center-points.

My Cross Flow engine number is made up too - no probs with SVA tester. Just looked up the code to date the engine. Whilst you're at it ensure
the engine code dates it pre cat test date.
On this site somewhere there is a list of engine date codes (i think they're two letters, but someone may want to correct me?)
Hope this helps!
