will a ford type 9 box go on a ford v6 (without an adaptor plate)
will a 2.8 cologne mate up to a type 9 box or is it not a straight fitment
plus will the box be strong enough to handle a V6???

The V6 cologne IS fitted with a type 9 - although most 2.8 / 2.9 are auto.
As Liam said, there is some statements on the net that the cologne V6 type 9 has a longer input shaft.
my 2.4 cologne has a type 9 as std.

Have a look at my post in the '2.8 flywheel' thread below...Do a search for 'input shaft' and see what you find...
Basically I'm now pretty certain the type-9 boxes fitted to the V6's have a longer input shaft and different bellhousing. As I mentioned
in the other thread I have lots of the bits you will need, but have kind of offered them to Chris W. But if he dont want them you can have them.
Otherwise get looking for a V6 type-9 and associated clutch gubbins.

I would like them... but... I have a 'normal' type 9 box here already so I'll be able to confirm if they are different or not.

Morning ladz,
I've got a straight cut type 9 from a 2ltr and tried to mate it to a 2.8 v6 with loads of grief, mullered clutched and buggered input shaft
sleeves. Basically the input shaft is longer on the v6 boxes.
I posted a question ages ago on here.People have mated them together ok and the reply was roughly yes using a capri 2.8i bellhousing and making up an
extension that sits on the end of the input shaft and mates up with the spigot bearing in the crank. Roughly the easiest way would be to find an old
input shaft, chop it off and then drill it out so it will fit on the end of the original input shaft. I'm not sure if the 2.8i capri bellhousing
is a must - a sierra or granny box might be just as good.
To change the spigot bearing you must first pack it with grease, then drive a slightly oversized dowl into it to allow you to pull it out -
hopefully! They can be a nightmare though.
If anyone does/can make up an extension let me know as i really do want to get this straight cut in!
