Toyota Gearbox

I have RWD gearbox that came from an old Celica XT.
Is this the T50 box that I hear people using with the 4age engine? I've heard it can be used with a Chevy 5.7 small block....

if it's a T50, there's no way it would take the torque from a V8.

Even with decent internals, they become a bit frayed at 200hp.I

What engine is in the Celica?

I'm assuming that the XT is the same one we got in Oz, it will be the 20R or 22R engine.

If that's the case the g/box will most likely be a W-series steel or alloy case jobby. And they can take a decent amount of punishment.

It should have some casting marks on the bellhousing or casing that should help identify it.

The engine was an 8 valve 4 pot job, big and heavy as I recall. I've dragged the box out of the shed, no numbers or ID on any of it:

Looks like it's a W55/57/58 gearbox.

Definitely a W5x gearbox. In the UK, the engine was probably a 21R.

AFAIK, no practical way of fitting it to a 4AGE

If You want a 4age engine, get a T50 Box of a toyota AE86 corrolla coupe RWD, they're really light (all alloy) and plenty strong for use in a light vehicle. some dutchies driving around with 200hp 4agze's in front. Just make sure that you have the right flywheel (212mm clutch) otherwise the plate won't fit the input shaft splines on the T50 box.

and if something bigger is used engine wise you can best take the W58 box, though they don't come cheap, the're very very strong.

I recall talking to a supra owner who had a 2JZgte engine in front off it splattered with Blitz parts doing something like 700+hp on the stock box. We came talking after he did a spendid take over on the main straight at the Zandvoort Race track in holland, I was doing 170+ half way down, and he passed me like I was at standstill.... scary fast! also the cobra boys use them for Twin Turbo'd 1uzfe toyota V8 engine's up to 800hp .

either a BW T5 or a W58 is in order for super serious power.

The Box shown in the piccie is the W55 one which you can also find in the Nissan 200SX 1.8 turbo (CA18DET engine) ie strong and cheap'ish
