I did a post on this on 7th April - measured up a few engine heights.

From c/line of crank to top of rocker cover, X'Flow is 15", Pinto is 17".

Didn't measure widths, not really a big deal on OHV or SOHC 4 cylinder engines.

Thanks mate. Your car looks nice btw.

How much of the sump hangs below if any?

What about the RV8?

Thanks, but it probably looks better in the pic than in real life!

I had/have a problem with engine height, even with a X'Flow.

When I built my car there was no Locostbuilders forum and I was pretty much on my own, therefore followed the "Book".

My sump sits an inch below the bottom rails as per the book. It's not chopped but could have been. As I have used an RS2000 gearbox, and these are bigger than the smaller X'Flow boxes - in the bell housing area - I could have only chopped an inch off the sump anyway. After that the bottom of the bellhousing is in the way.

Consequently my engine sits a little on the high side. If I were to build another.........

I'll take the tape measure to a RV8, however the issue with one of those will be - what type of carb system are you going to use? After that I would have thought that width, as well as height, becomes the proble.

The width etc isnt a prob. Im using an American small block for V8 and just wondered how high other engines were cos mine is a tad on the tall side.

I am glad someone else built a book from the book without this forum (just like me)

my x flow hangs out the bottom about 2 inchs from the bottom rail and is only 3 inches from ground level, and in 4 years of motoring I have not had any problems
with grounding, speed bumps etc
