Gear boxes
This may sound like a daft question to some of you but....
I have a x-flow 1600 that has had a 5 speed box put on some time ago. can somebody tell me what this gearbox is...what is it called, which car could
it have originally come from and what engines (newer) would fit onto one of these without any major new mods?
thanks

I just remember all the daft questions I used to ask... so - don't worry!
What you've probably got is a Mk 9 box from a Sierra. If you've got a cast iron box full of gears, with an aluminium extension to the
gearlever then it is a Mk 9.
However if the whole thing is aluminium, with lots of cast-in ribs then it's a MT75, which came on later Sierras.
UPDATE: Have a look at Rob Lane's site - take the 'gearboxes' link - for a good set of pictures of a Type 9.

Either box will fit most Ford engine blocks - I'm sure that someone will post a list!
cheers,
David
