3S-GE 3S-GTE
Have been looking around for for a 4-AGE motor, and whilst looking came across a few of the above.
MR2 N/A and Turbo (175 220 BHP)
Has anyone used them, and if so what box.
Nice cheap motors for as little as £100 for 175 BHP.

Yes very good engines, good power and lots of tuning possibilties. You can get gearboxes etc. have a look at http://www.billzilla.org. Hes a big
expert on toyta twin cams especially the 4age but hes fitting a tuned 3sge into his fraser clubman (LSIS). He uses a lexus IS200 6 speed but there are
other approaches. The guy i bought my 4age enigne off is putting a supra gearbox with his.

I belive the early celica (RWD) gearboxes will fit, although not sure they are up to taking the torque of the turbo lump.
The later 3SGTE produces 245bhp and is a little stronger, but rarer and more expensive of course. Just don't try to buy spares from your local
Toyota dealer without taking a tub of vaseline first..if you get my drift. Went to get a new exhaust valve for my MR2 turbo today (old one had a
crack in the valve head) and the robbing gits wanted £45 for one valve!!!
Also note that these engine have cast iron blocks and therefore weigh a bit more than the 4AGE (although still a fraction of the pintos weight!)

The 4a also has a cast iron block hence it can take so much abuse. The 4age is 1600 while the 3s block is 2000. Thats where the weight difference
comes in, its a much bigger engine. the 4age was designed to be very compact, in fact some say too compact, the the pistons are so close to each other
there isnt much allowance for boring the engine for higher torque.
