VR Sensor distance? Zetec
We have fitted the toothed wheel to the front of the Zetec (wont work in usual pos'n due to lightweight flywheel) but we are finding that the
sensor needs to be approx 6mm from teeth and is +/- 0.25mm or it stops reading !! Its a new sensor but we are getting good sparks on cylinder
1,2&3 but only intermittant on 4 - swapped out plug leads & no change
Any ideas ? This all seems a bit flakey to me!

Zetec is lost spark system and fires in pairs. Try a new coil pack.

I'd agree with Big Wasa - wasted spark so the fault is probably the coil pack, lead or plug.
Sensor needs to be pretty close - mine was about a max of 3mm (photo
here but doesn't show the gap.

Standard air gap for VR sensors is 0.5-1.5mm.....

I set up my sensor too close to the trigger wheel and ground the nose off!! So now my air gap is 0.00001mm!!!!!
Works pretty well though!!!!

AS close as you can without it touching i would say.
As said above try another coil pack. The crank sensor wont affect the spark on only 1 cyl.

So the opinion is approx 0-2mm. Why then does ours only work at 6mm (we have 2 sensors by the way and both need the same distance) What else could be
affecting the gap needed to create the sparks?
