Zetec Engine Number
I have a ford zetec engine with out an engine number? how do i go about getting one? or do i not need one?

We have a zetec 1800 engine, and the engine number was very difficult to see until we actually cleaned the engine up. The number was stamped
vertically on part of the engine near where the bell housing attaches. It was covered in cr*p, so we didn't actually find it until we cleaned the
engine up.

reference site)
