uprated clutch
anybody know the best place to buy an uprated clutch from? I`m using a standard 2.0 Zetec engine with standard 1.8 flywheel & clutch plate cover
with pinto clutch. All of these are new items having done only 100 miles. Yesterday on the rolling road the clutch slipped/went at 5000rpm so I need
to find an uprated stronger clutch according to the guys who were tuning my car. Any suggestions?

I`ve no idea really on power figures. On the first run it showed 150bhp but with something like 173ft/lbs of torque. These figures don`t add up. After
changing some jets in my webers they increased the rpm allowance on the rolling road. Then when the clutch went with a cloud of black smoke they
stated the clutch problem was producing irratic figures. So, I don`t have any accurate power figures to go by yet. I was told the clutch simply
couldn`t cope with the power and so it needs uprating, question is to what? Has anyone esle got an uprated clutch in a Zetec installation?

Would have thought that even a standard clutch would have lasted a bit longer than 100 miles? Might be worth checking your clutch clearance/adjustment
. If you didn't have any clearance then clutch would start to slip . Some so called reconditioned clutches are not worth fitting, think the
linings are made of cardboard . Buy a decent clutch when you get your replacement.

Sounds to me like the clutch is not receiving the full clamping pressure for some reason therefore it's slipping. They have probably cooked it
now though by the sounds of it.
If you want an uprated clutch have a look at the AP racing offerings @ Burton Power. They aren't cheap though!

I've got a Dunnel unit and never any issues. that said the standard one has to get the power down to car twice the weight. If release bearing OK
with some slack try giving Dunnel a call and see what they say.

I am using a 2.0 Pinto clutch, on a redrilled flywheel.

cheers for the replies so far guys, a few things to think about. Is anyone else using a similar set up to me?
2.0 Zetec Engine, 1.8 zetec pressure plate & flywheel, pinto clutch & release bearing. Anyone else experience problems with this set up?

i would have thought that a pinto clutch would be capable of driving a much lighter car than it was ever designed for... im amazed that it slips, im
running a 2.0 pinto pushing 140bhp with no problems with the standard clutch
