Standard Pinto Camshafts
Hi There,
Can anyone tell me if the standard camshafts fitted to a 2.0 and a 2.0i are the same.
In my Indy I have an injection engine (now running on carbs) and the camshaft is starting to develop the dreaded knock.
In a cupboard in the garage I have a camshaft and followers from a carburettor engine that is virtually brand new.
I know it will fit in the injection engine but will it affect performance ???
Its a standard engine with Dellorto DHLA 40's and megajolt.

I believe that they are different. Have a look at the online Burton Power site and check the cam numbers, I don't think they will be the same.
Not sure just how much it will effect performance though. Just swap it over and see, it's such a simple job. Check the overhead oil pipe for
blockages as their very bad for that.

The cam timings are different on an injection cam, and the inlet stays open for 12deg more.
From the book, the timings are 232/236 for carbs and 244/236 for injection. There is a longer overlap of inlet and exhaust.
It may not have a detrimental effect, and it may mean you need to revisit your carb tuning.
Spray bars are so cheap now its worth replacing them every time you do an oil change. Gaskets for Classics charge about £4.50

Well I think I may have answered my own question.....
Just found the Haynes manual and it states
Valve Timing
All Engines Except NAE
Inlet opens 24 BTDC
Inlet Closes 64 ABDC
Exhaust Opens 70 BBDC
Exhaust Closes 18 ATDC
Engine Code NAE
Inlet opens 18 BTDC
Inlet Closes 58 ABDC
Exhaust Opens 70 BBDC
Exhaust Closes 6 ATDC
Now I know engine code NAE is the Transit / P100 engine, so it seems 2.0 and 2.0i engines use the same camshaft.
Problem now is finding out if the spare cam I have is for a Transit or a car. I guess this is going to be a bit tricky....any ideas.
If I cant ID it I will swap it anyway, just to see, as Mr Whippy suggests, but if anyone knows how to ID it please share.
(Might be an excuse to fit a performance cam though.... )
