will alloy pipe be ok for use in the colling system
if so what thickness of pipe should i use

Yes, just make sure you use anti-freeze in your system to stop the pipe corroding
About 1mm will do.

B&Q do a nice 6' long TV aerial pole in 25mm dia 1mm wall aluminium.

Comes in two styles, straight and a s-shaped one.

's what I used.
