Engine mount failure

After spending some time trying to find a knocking noise that only occured whilst driving, I finally located it!

The engine mount had fractured on the exhaust side and was resting very closely together. Close enough to be overlooked each time, the cracked mount rested together and closed it up.

I don't think I would have found it for a while but the vibration had loosened one of the engine bolts. I tried to tighten it back up and in fact lifted engine slightly, giving away the fault.

I must admit it was down to me. I had cut out part of my mount when I replaced the engine and had not radiused the cuts.
This caused a fracture crack to start in one corner and spread across.

It's all welded up now and braced with an extra piece of steel.

Not the first time I've heard of this but it can catch anyone out. Moral is check engine mounts from time to time.
I do a bolt check every year but this happened after that.
