Engine Management

Hi there,

I have just started building my locost, and am starting to think about things I would like to do or have in it. I thought it would be nice if I could develope my own management computer.

I was just wandering if anyone here has tried (successfully or not) to do the same thing. I think it should be a lot cheaper and you will probably have more control of how the engine runs.

I would potentially like to have it controlling the speedo, tacho, guages, etc. as well as ignition and fuel injection.

Any comments...?

id say build the car first and worry about the EFI mods after.

I think there is a lot more to efi design than a lot of people estimate....just read up a bit about it on google and make your mind up.

Hi pickleza,

I see you are from SA as well, u've found a good forum to help you, the guys here great! anyway enough earning brownie points

Before you go develop your own management system, you should have a look at some nice aftermarket systems around here, for example, there is a excellent 'domingos' range available here anywhere from R1500-R13000 (some include launch control etc) obviously u'd be looking at the lower price range.

I know a few guys who are running the domingos system and are extremely happy(one running 320hp with a vr6 turbo) the system is fully programmable and there are lots of second hand bits and pieces going around.

Give a place called 'topsport developments' in JHB a call, they'll be able to advise you.

What engine are you going to be using?

cheers
darren

Bikkel, could you reduce the size of your avatar at all...?

It's very nice and all but it takes up half the screen width...

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm thinking about using a 20V RSi engine (4A-GE). I first have to get my chassis up to the point where I can fit an engine, but I am starting to think about it.

It would be nice to have control over all, as well as learning some cool stuff...
