No!
But if you ever decide to go fuel injection you'll need one so there's a point of view that its a good idea to put on in just in case you
decide to change things in future... In which case you'ld need to cap it off at both ends....
but basically no!!

cheer for that. The reason i ask is because it seems like my carbs are leaking, ocassionally the drip? I thought the pressure of the pump might be
over riding the needle valve?

thirded no. the facet solid state pump aren't that high a pressure; having said that I have one fitted to a v8 whcih has a fule pressure
regulator to a pair of HIFs so cannot rule out that that is the problem but unliklely.
when you say leak - you mean out of the bodies or you get a richer mixture?
the solid stae pump are not rpm sensitive so if this was a problem, I would guess you would get poor idling due to overfuelling.

The carbs drip from the seal between carb and manifold. Can't imagine that the fuel would leak through the seal. Also the engine ticks over
fine, but is a little lumpy when trying to drive slowly. However floor it and its fine.

i think the carbs only need a low pressure of fuel about 3psi, so your pump may be over pressuring them.
a pressure regulator with filter might help.

If you decide to inject later on then the efi can return back to a swirl pot up front so no need to get back to the tank.

Don't waste money and obstruct flow rate a Bendix /facet solid state pump works just fine on 40DOCes without a regulator.
Check the float heights are properly set and check the float needle valves.

The carbs were rebuilt, new valves jets and fully checked. Had them set up by LAD in Morecombe. Don't think i will go down the injection route
but one never knows.
