calling all weber experts - chokes
I have been stripping down my weber 45 carsb (DCOE) and have found that the pair which were connected to cylinders 1 and 2 have smaller main ventries
then the pair connected to 3 and 4. 36 and 38 respectively. As far as i am aware these carbs were set up by aldon... would they have got this wrong or
is this normal?
Any thoughts would be great
thanks
Rupert

I think you mean the main venturies (or chokes) The auxilliaries are the small ones at the front.
This is NOT normal and clearly wrong! I would get another pair of 36mm chokes as it will make your engine sweeter at low to midrange engine speeds,
which is where it spends most of it's time.

No, not normal
All 4 should be identical and appropriate to size of engine.....

Ermmmm, I really hate to say this, but if they got the chokes wrong, then its very likely that the jets to that are also wrong.
These people know their stuff, and good to talk to..... Southern Carbs linky
I don't think you will get anything of the like at the show.......but I really don't know..

having a read of my book it looks like you might be correct! - there are 155 main jets in there. sounds like i don't need more than 145s
it's a 2.1l pinto - fast road cam but no other head work
There is never such a thing as a simple job is there!

Mixed up Chokes
It is worth measuring the actual bore of all the chokes to see if the actual size is the same as that stamped on the side. If they did not have four
38mm chokes they could have put 36mm ones in a lathe and enlarged them.
All my 33mm chokes were machined from 30mm ones.
If they are mixed sizes I should speak to Alan Goodwin at Aldon and tell him about the problem, I think he would be embarassed.

they are def. different. i could tell by eye. this is the only reason i checked the stamps.
I am trying to find out from the previous owner whether the carbs were supplied by aldon or not but even then you would have thought they would chekc
when when they were set up
