Sticky Carb

Did about 150 miles yesterday in the Tiger, excellent day for it, there was a group of us. Two Tigers, Two Caterhams a Westie and an Ultima.

Anyway after fixed the throttle cable last week and charging the battery everthing seemed ok. However when the car got very hot it did something strange. Push on the pedal for more power....al ok. Come off the throttle but the carbs seemed to be pouring in more power as if the throttle return spring had come off. Ckecked under the bonnet an the spring is still in place and working fine.

What is wrong with them, it seems like they are sticking some how.

Other than that yesterday my only problem (which could have been major) was after going round a bend my steering wheel just locked and i could not move it. Had to break hard to avoid ending up in the bushes. Looked under the bonnet, nothing then it was ok. Any ideas?

Sticky throttle: is the cable as straight as possible, with no unexpected kinks on the corners? Does the cable need lubricating (not all do)? Is the carb throttle linkage going over-centre, so the spring can't pull it back?

Jammed steering: Unexpected application of the steering lock? If it was a tight bend, had you gone 'over the end' of the rack?

I'd fix both of these problems need fixing before I went out again, if I were you!

Not sure about the steering but as said above, probably wise to get that fixed!

I had a similar throttle/carb sticking problem a while ago. Turned out my throtle cable was routed too close to exhaust which had deformed the outer cable. This appeared to lessen when cold and worsen when hot. Got to be worth a check?

Thanks guys. To be fair the carbs only do it when it is hot. Will have a proper look at the weekend.

Well steering has been thoroughly checked out and is fine. Also is it running really nice. Went out with my brother last week and he really like it!

Sounds like maybe your rack may be adjusted too tight and is binding when hot?
