crossflow to type 9

hi folks stuck again lol

i have been trying to fit a type 9 to my crossflow engine with little sucsess
i have the engin fitted to the block ok the correct clutch plate and have tryed both a pinto and a xflow pressure plate
however i cant get the gearbox to disengae from the engine
i have correctly adjusted the clutch and its definatly clearing i can look up where the clutch cable gose and there about a 2mm gap between the faces with the pedal pressed it dosent try to turn everything when the gearbox is in nuetral but put it in gear and the whole lot turns even withe clutch pressed
any ideas as i am about to throw the 4 speed back in
if it makes any diffrence its a 2 ltr box pinto clutch plate and relese bearing xflow flywheel adn have tryed both types of pressure plate

I used an early Sierra clutch when I fitted the gearbox with no problems . Have you changed the spigot bearing? If that is dragging it will cause problems

I take it you are doing this without the engine running. When the clutch pedal is depressed the pressure plate moves away from the driven plate but the driven plate is still in contact with the flywheel. At hand turning speeds there is enough drag from this contact to turn the gearbox input shaft and if in gear the gearbox output shaft will turn. Hold the output shaft still, and with the clutch released you should find you can break the clutch drag when turning the engine. If it's all running and you mean the car moves when in gear despite the clutch being released disregard the above.

yep done all that its not just drag its well fixed to the flywheel its enough to move the car forward even with the clutch pressd

Have you got the correct clutch plate? The 2 litre Sierra has a 215mm dia plate, which will be too big. You need an early 1.6 plate, which is 190mm dia the same as the crossflow was but with 23 splines. Quinton Hazell part no. C784AF. The crossflow pressure plate is the correct one to use (and is the same as the early 1.6 Sierra), and you need release bearing from 1.6 Sierra QH ref CCT132.

If you get a clutch kit Quinton Hazell ref QKT152AF it'll have all the bits you need.

Hope this helps.
