FR30

An ex workmate of mine has a granada which has made a valliant attempt at the MOT, but has failed permanently. It has a 205 pinto with injection and a FR30 kent cam installed.

I have been offered said cam - is it going to be an improvement on my standard injection cam? A google search seems to suggest it is a towing booster, should I bother?

"Towing" cams are usually made to boost torque at "normal" rev range. Supposedly very mild.

If it's free/cheap it's probably worth a shot. The Kent cams catalogue says 260 degree duration and decent amount of lift, which should be mild enough not upset the air flow meter on the stock injection system. It also claims 16bhp gain, which is possible I suppose especially if your stock cam is getting a bit elderly.

Yeah but with our light weight cars 'very mild' may not be as mild as we think. I say give it ago. Its certainly not going to decrease you performance.

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

One of my mates has a 2.0 Pinto on twin 45's with a towing spec cam in it. In terms of power it is mild but he has a lot of torque. On trackdays with 888's or slicks there are not many cars thaat get away. He is a decent draiver and has had the car a few years but for a relatively basic Pinto it is quite surprising. The head has had some porting done. It has been RR'd a couple of times at approx 140bhp (not sure if @ wheels or flywheel - suspect flywheel).

So in summary it should be worth doing for nowt but if you want more out of the head there are better routes (although admittedly circa £500 with head porting and new cam kit).

Do you think I would need a vernier pully, I already have a finger clock and stand so no difficulty setting it up.
