k1200s
Does anyone know of a build incorporating the K1200s shaft drive engine from a BMW bike?
It is already dry sumped and put out busa level hp. Also, no need to "turn" the engine and it is low due to the 55 deg lean on the
cylinders.

i was going to use a bmw k1100, but its not revy enough, although i liked the idea parts are £££££

The K12 should be a good old beast, and I can't see any reason not to use one. If you can find one....
I doubt that anyone has used one yet due to the fact that they're so scarce - a bloke I know was going to buy one last year but the waiting list
was 6 months! He bought a 'Busa instead....

I cant imagine they're the kind of bike that too many people throw down the road either, more of a gentleman's supertourer than a
scratcher's Sunday blast bike like most sports bikes that end up as donors.

Aren't bevel gears designed to run the correct way?...Reason why there is a loud whine when reversing?

There's been quite a bit of debate about doing that on here and elsewhere (mostly to accomodate older Honda car engines), but Im not convinced
its a good solution as the gears are bevelled to suit a certain drive direction so running it backwards could cause excessive wear and noise, and you
obviously also need to deal with breathers / filling plugs etc.

They used to flip the old VW transaxle for use in Formula Ford, it later became the Hewland, I'm sure the VW unit has seen lots of use
"flipped" without a problem, but I agree about the whine in reverse - is it perhaps more from the gearbox than the axle?
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator

I suspect by the time it became a Hewland though that it would have had a bespoke CWP, therefore designed to go in the direction it's being run
in. Could be wrong tho.

Isn't the whine in reverse due to reverse being a straight cut gear?
