hopefully a simple bike carb question

i'm putting bike carbs on my pinto in the future but i'm just wondering what i do with the pipe that feeds the vacum to the dizzy? can i block it off or does the dizzy need to be changed? i want to keep to dizzys at the moment rather than megajolt doo-da's.

hopefully a simple question

Ideally get a new (or modified) dizzy you can just disconnect the pipe and advance the ignition a bit but it's not ideal.

Have a read of this: link

You can mod your own if you don't mind messing about with it or there are companies such Aldon or Jacko used one - I can't remember the name but they seem ok too.

Cheers

You can block it off. but set the advance to 36-38 deg at 3500rpm . but i would recommend a new one
I got a new modded dizzy from H&H ignition solutions very good price

The vac advance only works at low revs. At higher revs there isnt as much vacuum to change the advance etc. Mine ran OK disconnected, but far better with MJLJ.

I also tuned mine by setting the revs and tweaking dizzy to come all in as Jacko says. Its a compromise as whatever this translates to at lower revs is what you are stuck with. Only other way is to set tickover advance but then you have no control over when full advance comes in.
For now id recommend setting between 10 and 12 deg at tickover and go from there once you have sorted the running gremlins out.

Step 1 of my bike carb conversion was the MJLJ. Delayed getting the carbs on (still not done yet) but at least ive got to grips with ignition before introducing another variable.

im happy with megajolt and have the option for 3D mapping.
Would a H&H dizzy be better than MJLJ or is it just horses for courses? From a cost and future updrageability point of view MJLJ wins in my mind every time.

Hi if you like playing with lap tops etc nothing wrong with megajolt BUT why when a modded dizzy is all you need all you have to do is fit it and forget it
Darren as you know Mark [ mookaloid ] has a modded dizzy and you know how his car goes
But as you say horses for courses
