the standard 95 octane is more than enough for a standard bike engine.
if its been tuned, compression increased etc then the super stuff may benifit it
all IMHO of course

According to Haynes, my bird is specced for a minimum of 91 RON fuel!

I generally use V Power / BP Ultimate etc in my injected R1 on track but only because I've got a PC3r Power Commander which adjusts fuel and ignition, and the map Im currently running is from a similar race car setup which I assume was probably set up for 98 RON.

Unless you adjust the ignition advance on a rolling road to suit the fuel (not possible on a standard blade engine without an ignition advance gismo or you convert to throttle bodies and mappable ignition), or your ECU is self adapting to suit the fuel being used (which hardly any if any bike engines do) then there's no performance benefit, although there may be a cleaning benefit as the premium fuels tend to have better cleaning additives in them, especially when compared to supermarket fuel.

If it's the map you gave me then it has the standard PC3R R1 engine timing, advance has not been adjusted at all.

It probably is! I must admit Ive not looked at the map Im using since I put the R1 in as the laptop I used originally is now dead and Ive not needed to change anything since so havent installed the Power Commander app on my new laptop. I thought both ignition and fuel had been altered seeing as it was generated on a rolling road originally, but maybe Im imagining things. Still, thats good news in a way as there should be some minor improvements if I ever get round to setting it all up properly on a RR!

Do many bikes have knock sensors? Mine does, but quite as to how much the engine uses it, I don't know.

Not many I dont think, certainly none that I know of. Maybe its trickier to detect at the higher rpm of a bike engine?
