zxr pump/carbs/fuel....

had zx9r carbs fitted before on the x-flow but they suddenly started spitting back. this was over the winter & as i needed the car i just fitted the dgv back on it. i have now decided to refit the zx9r carbs. people have said that a low fuel pressure could have been making the carbs play up before so i have now fitted a zx9r fuel pump. have just got the car started & there is fuel leaking from the carbs - a lot of fuel. looks like it's coming from underneath & just running off the bottom of them.

any ideas??

could it be too much pressure for them now?? i wouldn't have thought so.
could it be leaking from around the float chambers?? i think my mate had those off when he gave them a once over.

thanks for your help because this is really doing me in now & getting me down

First thing I would suspect is the the float valves in the carb fuel bowls.

The ZX9R carbs also have normally have an overflow, on the bike these are connected to a couple of pipes that look similat to the fuel inlet. Might be worth looking there, if so that would confirm that the bowls are being flooded.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Ian.

P.S. have a look at www.kawsaki.com and look at the parts diagrams and you'll see how the carbs are put togther.

there are two outlets on the top of the carbs & these are connected together??

if they are the overflow should i just t-piece them in before the pump??

Well, I took all four float covers off & made sure everything was ok there. Took the joining pipe from the upper two outlets & it is fine now BUT ... What should I do with those outlets??
Where do they go to on a bike??
I'm presuming they are 'air' pipes as opposed to 'fuel' pipes??

On the Bike they exit via part of the air ducts to drain on to the road.

On my MK i've got a pipe connected that drains to the road as well, away from the exhuast etc.
