Zetec Oil Pressure (none)

I'm attempting to get the oil running around my zetec for the 1st time.

Engine full with 5W30 to the Max line.
Small amount of Oil added in to the bores.

I have cranked it over quite a bit (quite a few 10 second bursts). But no pressure reading.

Also I have removed the filter to find it empty... I've now put in as much oil in there as I can without spillage and replaced it.

What else should I be doing as I'm stuck...

Have a search under my user name .

Starting with Link .

Mine turned out to be a mismatch of parts in a rebuilt oil pump, I thnk I put the wrong presure relife valve in. Yours may be stuck?

The long and the short is I put a new pump in and got instant oil presure.

Thanks for the details but its the original pump out of the engine. Not been run for 2 years so thinking its a priming issue...

Trying to devise a way of priming it now...

Try removing the oil pressure relief valve, it would pay to clean it anyhow, using an oil can dribble oil into the pump via the relief valve drillings. Worth a try.

If its been sat for 2 years without pressure, it is not likely to be the relief valve. It may be the pump needs priming though.

This can be done either through the relief valve or easier through the filter hole. Just keep squirting it in there until it's full as the pump will not draw any fresh oil if it is filled with air.

I had a similar problem a few years ago - sticking oil pressure relief valve. Take it out - towards front of block on off side (on oil pump?) and try and get it to reseat.

Have you had the sump and oil pickup pipe modified ?

Sump and oil pickup were replaced. I'm positive there was no blockage and it was replaced correctly.

I can't get to the pressure relief valve as its internal on the 2L oil pump so I'm told...

I'm going to block all breathers and centre of hole on fpump and then pressurise the sump via the dip stick hole or one of the breathers and try to get oil flowing out of the pump to filter hole... That way I'll know its primed. (Thanks Kevin Wood for the tip).

I'll report back... At least I got hte brakes all bled today and they'll stay that way now theres no leaks (fingers crossed)...!
