Odd noise from type 9 box

I have recently (on and off over the last 150 miles) noticed a strange noise from the type 9 box in my locost.

It sounds a bit like a water pump of cambelt tensioner pulley bearing going a touch noisy, which i initially thought it was, but I have now realised that it only does it on the overrun or coasting down with the clutch down, and only at slowish speed, generally coasting/overrunning down at the lower end of 2nd gear.

Its a bit like an extremely muffled shriek, a bit like the sound you get if you ever boil a car and the rad cap is blowing a bit.

Any ideas cos its baffling me!!!!!!??????

if you need a spare type 9 I've got one.

(although if we're not careful eventually I'm going to claim ownership of your car as my bits migrate there!)

p.s. BBQ at mine this Sat & still haven't found your CD.

Not a lot of help, but - Is that the noise you make when you realise its about to become an expensive drive round the block?

I imagine the release bearing is something you've already thought of.......but I'll throw it in as a suggestion anyway

Is the noise affected by lightly pressing the clutch pedal?

Hmmmm, its really bloody hard to tell where its coming from, and it seems to do it with the clutch up or down, but more obviously with foot off the clutch, just overrunning in second gear.

Its getting gradually worse and making the noise more often each time I use the car, so I guess it will make itself apparent at some point!

Just taken somebody from work out for a lunchtime spin and now the noise is distinctly worse!!!

Seems to be mainly in second gear, but some in third too, and worst when the gear is "unloaded" i.e. light throttle and overrun.

Pretty sure its time for a repacement box................

will start to keep a tally, that's 1 type 9!!!

(have two more spares! )
