Bike Carbs 4 Crossflow

I've decided to fit bike carbs to the crossflow. Anyone done this? If so which carbs did you use? Anyone else have any suggestions for suitable carbs, preferably that can be respaced?

Any suggestions appreciated.

I've used R6 ones apparently, they are 34mm chokes and Bogg brothers do a little mod to make them work straight out of the box from them, I'va also used an R6 fuel pump, mounted next to the tank to give the exact fuel rating for the carbs

I used CBR600 carbs, we just got 'em fitted before converting to Zetec, but they ran fine.

They have 34-35mm chokes and were dirt cheap, 99p on ebay! They look like they can be respaced but I've not bothered, I just redrilled the main jets to 1.65mm and they work brilliantly, nice smooth idle and no flat spots.

A warning though, you'll lose your vacuum connection on your inlet manifold so there'll be nowhere for your crankcase breather to go, when I unplugged my breather, I was engulfed in blue smoke (I knew the engine wasn't at peak health, but not to that extent) hence the Zetec conversion

Edited to say, they're now on the Zetec (had to make another manifold) and run beautifully

Hi,

did you ajust the needles much? either by moving the existing washer further down or by putting other washers under it?

Cheers

I tried the washers under the needles, but TBH couldn't tell any difference, so removed 'em. It's early days yet, only a few hundred miles done on the new engine so far, but seems to run perfectly (probably just blind luck)

So would I be right in saying carbs from a 600cc bike will probably suit best?

Yup.

A workmate of mine has 600 Fazer crabs on his X/flow powered mk2.

Goes alright, cheap, and no issues running out of head room on them
