V8 Heater Pipe Plumbing

Hi,

I'm starting to think about the plumbing on my late model Rover v8 engine (serpentine front end).
Can anyone give me any hints and tips for doing this?
I'm thinking especially the heater hoses as there is no take off from the water pump.
Any help much appreciated!!!!
Thanks

The heater takeoffs on the EFI engines are underneath the plenum chamber. One is 5/8", the other 3/4".

That is on a pre-serp SD1 engine tho, but I think the Serp engines are the same...

On top of the waterpump on a pre serp, there is a little preformed pipe that connects out the top of the pump to one of the pipes that go under the plenum, I think the other pipe connects into the inlet manifold jacket. Not sure on that though.

Fit a little 10 mil bypass pipe in parallel with the heater valve and matrix (prevents a brief pressure surge when the heater valve is closed), and its all good.

You can get plumbing bits for this from www.tom-parker.co.uk. Tee pieces are made by NORMAplast, and are a couple of quid each or less.
If you want to make a really nice job of the plumbing, use Oetiker clips. Dont use them on oil systems though, as Worm drive clips do tend to hold a little better under 50PSI+, and the consequences of one letting go...........

Still O-clips are more than up to the job for cooling systems.

Thanks for the reply Ed.

On the Serpentine engines there are no take offs/pipes on the water pump.

I suspect that I will have to tee the heater pipes into the main hoses but how and where??????

Cheers

BTW - There won't be a heater so thats one less thing to worry about!
