Pinto Grief

I had my engine going a couple of weeks ago but now it won't start. Petrol is getting there but the spark is erratic and not regular enough. I have checked the coil, it seems OK, I have tried my spare amp, I have disconnected rev counter and disconnected field connection to the alternator.

The engine is not turning over very well, it seems to turn over slowly a bit like over advanced ignition though I have not changed timing since it last ran. any ideas or help appreciated

Sounds daft, but the battery *IS* charged, isn't it?

Have you checked the engine earth? If it's not turning over it's either a low battery, poor earth or over advanced ignition. Since you say you have an iffy spark, I'd go for a dodgy earth strap somewhere.

i'm with the above.

probably a bad earth connection.

i had problems, fuel in filter and assumed that i had fuel in the float chamber, turned out the float chamber was empty and i was just sucking air in the section after the filter.

if you have fuel in the float chamber then it's proberbly bad earth.

Earth is a brand new BIG strap to Chassis on an 8mm bolt with 16mm2 cable from same bolt to battery terminal. cables to starter are getting warm so are passing current. will check voltages at coil while cranking.
