What does this bit do?
When I fit an electric fuel pump I shall be removing the original mechanical one, replacing it with a blanking plate.
Looking in the Burtons catalogue I can see that they sell 2 types. There's the basic one, which I can make myself without difficulty, using a
bit of metal from my scrap box.
The other one has an 'oil breather deflector plate', and looks like this:
How important is this metal tab? It'll be very little extra bother to add a tab, but I do like to know why...

Hmm i'd be very interested to know as well, ours is breathing a bit heavy since we swapped to Injection.
It must stop the Auxilery shaft from spraying quite as much oil about... or stop it surging forwards or upto the blankibf plate or Dizzy drive.
The standard injection blanking plate is just flat.... but standard sierra's don't experience quite the same things as we do

I've run cross flows without the extra plate and absolutely thrashed them without any cam damage in that area.
I'd just blank it off and forget about it.

I think it is supposed to stop the oil from being thrown directly into the crankcase breather as on a crossflow it is directly above the fuel pump
cam.
I made a plain blanking plate and didnt notice a problem with mine either.
If you using bike carbs why not keep the mechanical pump and fit a pressure regulator if neccessary?

Its to stop oil throwing off the cam into the breather, nothing to do with cam wear. Oil loss through the breather will also depend on your breather
system.
DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!

I may just fit one anyway - it's easy to work out the general dimensions from the photo.
As for the fuel pump... I've always wanted to fit an electric one (the wire's there already), partly because it'll work without a
regulator, but also because I intend to add a bit of 'security' to the wiring.
