Yamaha R1 04 -> 06 vs 07 ->

What are the 07 R1 engines like for fitting in a kitcar? my car will be made around an 04 - 06 R1, but if i could get hold of an 07 engine would it fit in the engine frame the same, as ive been told they have the same mountings? also would an 04-06 exhaust manifold fit on an 07 engine?

the main things that put me off the 07 is the Fly by wire setup, and the more complicated electronics setup including the variable length intake.

Anyone here have much experience of installing/ setting one up? or should i just stick with an 06 engine?

an 06 engine is a known quantity and if you want an easy life, just fit that.

The 07 engine is meant to be better. More power and a wider torque spread. It sounds more tricky but that needn't put you off.

Get hold of the throttle pot off an 07 bike. If you can't mount it directly then you'll have to make something to replace it. It can't be that hard.

If the variable intake won't fit then perhaps is can be locked in 1 position or replaced with conventional trumpets. Worst case, you have to fit the actuator to the loom a bit like the exup servo.

im not gonna choose it for the power... ive only asked because im on the lookout for an 06 engine, but ive had someone offer me a decent 07 setup, but i was unsure about the extra electronics i think ill just hold out for that 06 then
